I posted a few months back on some essential blogs and news sites around addiction and recovery. I’ve reposted my favourites and added a few more in an update. Feel free to add your own selections in the comments below. What websites will help folk recover from addiction?

There are hundreds, perhaps thousands, of blogs and websites offering information, news, opinion and research findings on addiction and recovery. Navigating them can be bamboozling. I wanted to share a few of my favourites with you, but also to hear about any other sites that deserve the description ‘not-to-be-missed’. If you have any to highlight, maybe your own or one you find useful, drop me a note in comments. Meantime here are my top eleven unmissable addiction and recovery resources.

Addiction and Recovery News

As many visitors to Recovery Review know, I’m a fan of Jason Schwartz’s writing. He’s reflective and experienced and has a refreshing take on recovery. Sign up for updates.

Drugscope Daily

Like a cup of strong tea, it’s just a part of my morning routine. Eclectic yet relevant links to news, policy, research and areas of development. To gather it all together is quite a task. Essential resource for the field. Get on the email update list.

Drug and Alcohol Findings

In depth analysis of research which focuses on the UK and tries to achieve ‘technology transfer’ – the process whereby relevant research is understood in terms of its meaning to the field and translates into practice to the benefit of clients and practitioners. Quality stuff from Mike Ashton who edits the site.

William White Papers

Historian, author, researcher, commenter and highly regarded statesman of the recovery field, Bill White has written millions of words about addiction, treatment, policy, mutual aid and the recovery movement. A rich resource. He blogs too.

Most treatment for dependence takes place in primary care settings. The SMMGP website hosts news, clinical updates and forums where frank debate takes place. There’s been a welcome shift from a mainly harm reduction focus to a broader perspective over the last few years. This is a site for grazing, reference and stimulating discussion.

Addiction Inbox

Dirk Hanson writes ‘articles and health studies about drugs, addiction and alcoholism, including the most recent scientific and medical findings.’ Solid stuff. He also wrote a book I recommend; The Chemical Carousel: What science tells us about beating addiction.

Talking Drugs

This is my go-to site for harm reduction news, but it is more than this. Here’s how they describe their purpose: ‘Talking Drugs is an online space reflecting the global challenge posed by illicit drugs. It provides an opportunity to share stories and insights that will help us find better ways to control illicit drugs and prevent them causing excessive harm.’

A place to share what’s going on in the lives of those celebrating or contemplating recovery. A place to connect. A place to learn. A place that’s both safe and challenging. A place not to be missed. Find out more from editor and show runner Michaela here.

The Fix

More addiction and recovery news, resources and opinion than you can shake a stick at. On the opinion side you’ll need to sort out the wheat from the chaff, but the balance is definitely in favour of shared experience, evidence and inspiration for recovery.

Recovery Stories

Using the power of the narrative, Recovery Stories is committed to helping individuals and families recover from addiction and mental health problems.
